Arjan Habraken, founder of SIDstudio, saw during his visit to Guatemala the need of proper housing and good education. This made him decide to support Constru Casa. His support is not only financial funding via SIDstudio but also, as Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Build Environment at the Technical University in Eindhoven, surging for possible collaboration between the TU/e and Constru Casa.

Constru Casa is a non-profit organization that aims to improve the quality of life among Guatemalans living in extreme poverty through the provision of basic housing, support programs and community development projects related to health and education.

Guatemala is among the poorest countries in the Americas, with more than half of its population living in poverty. Many of these Guatemalans live in inadequate housing: a typical house consisting of cornstalk walls, a dirt floor and a scrap material roof. Constru Casa provides sturdy block, 1 to 3 room houses for families in need. In addition, they build community buildings such as schools, clinics, orphanages and community centers to assist in community development.

Constru Casa is based in La Antigua, Guatemala, but work throughout the country. Their work is always in collaboration with local social work organizations to identify and select families of exceptional need. Beneficiary families participate in the construction of their home and pay back 33% of the total cost of their house, which then goes to fund future projects.

They already build more than 500 family houses. Ing. Carolina van Heerde from The Netherlands is the founder and Director of the Guatemalan Foundation.
