BELLE VAN ZUIJLEN - UTRECHT
The 262m tower design was planned nearby Utrecht. The floor area of about 96.000m2 hosting a hotel, apartments, offices, small shops and parking. It was by far the highest building in The Netherlands introducing a lot of questions concerning the Dutch design codes. Wind loading, fire regulations, escape routes, installation layout, elevator plan, constructability; all needed to be designed from a new perspective. International study trips were made to learn from the experiences and results on other high rise projects in the world. Special studies were made to tackle the extreme high foundation loading on the soft soil of The Netherlands.
With the clients strong contribution an extended study was done towards a high level of integration between the different disciplines. A BIM work environment was set up, in which disciplines work on one design model, tackling design and construction issues in an early project phase.
